Acrylic Over Gel vs. Gel Over Acrylic: Which is Best?

Going through nail school, I asked this question but a little out of practice and forgot...
Can you fill acrylic over gels or gels over acrylic. I know only one of them is an option but cannot remember?

Its possible to them both aways as far as i know. Sometimes techs use gel over acrylic to give the enhancements a nice shine, them repeat the procedure for infills (fill with acrylic then gel top coat) But you want to convert a gel client to acrylic, and since most gels can be soaked off, i would recomend filing most of the gel of, leaving only a thin layer, and then do them using acrylics.
