QuestionHi Amber.
I was in a hurry today and make the mistake of choosing to try something new and go with a french set of acrylic nails with gel overlay instead of regular french manicure.
Seems like a costly mistake at this point after reading up. The nail salon was not in the best of conditions, neither was their technique (gap between tips and natural nails -> tips not glued on properly I assume).
The nails, on the surface looks pretty good, feels a little uncomfortable but live-able. I only need it this coming saturday for a event and don't really care for them after. My priority then is to do what's best for my natural nails.
My main question is then if I should go have them removed (there really aren't any real reputable nail salons nearby and most of them I'm guessing would just try and take it off from the bottom of the acrylic nail which sounds bad plus all the acetone doesn't sound very nail/finger friendly too). The alternative I'm thinking about is just to grow them out without going in for any fills (would not step foot in that shop again. What was I thinking?) since I want my natural nails back. Would it then be ok for me to gradually file my nails to trim them? Does the file work on both acrylic and gel since the gel seems pretty hard.
Thanks for sharing.
AnswerHi,
Sorry for the delay. Ok so the best thing for you to do will take some time but will pay off in the long run.
There is an article called removing acrylic nails the DIY I wrote it! It will give you all the info and tell you what tools you will need.
One thing the article doesn't tell you is file the top of the sealer before soaking, you need to break the seal for the acetone to work.
