How to Remove Gel Over Acrylic Nails Without Damaging Natural Nails

Question
Hi Liza,

I got my nails done about 2 and half weeks ago, and at first I had no idea what he was putting on me because it was my first time. Now I know he put acrylic with a gel overlay, but he also used this grinder to grind down my natural nail. They started to lift with the week, so today I went to a different salon in hopes of getting them filled.

The nail technician took one look and told me that who ever did my nails previously had really been rough with my natural nail. She used a nail file to file off all the lifting areas, and underneath, my real nail was looking extremely distressed and very red. She applied gel over top and said that the only thing I can do now is wait for it to grow out.

I can still see the redness of my natural nail underneath the gel on 2 or 3 of them. Is there anything else I can do to help with the redness? and is putting more gel on top damaging the already distressed nail?

Thank you very much!
Chia

Answer
hi chia
sorry for the delay, i have been away for the weekend.
im sorry to hear you have had a bad experience, unfortunatly there are a few nail techs that still abuse the natural nail.
the gel wont do any more harm as long as it doesnt lift.
imagine someone coloured or straightened your hair and over processed it. the damage would grow out and the new hair would be fine.]
you nails are the same, the damage will grow out and if it is protected with a good application of product, either acrylic or gel, they will grow out within a few months.
dont let anyone tell you that gel is "better"; "kinder" for your nails than acrylic.
it has nothing to do with the product, it has everything to do with how it is applied.
never let anyone file your natural nail with a drill or a harse file.
it is only necessary to remove the shine not etch it to peices.

hope your nails get better and that you soon enjoy them, liza
