QuestionMy 9 year old daughter wants to get acrylic nails. I told her she had to have her own money to take care of them and get them done which she has done. I took her to get them done and they did not want to do them. Is there an age limit? I could see them not wanting to do a 5 year old but how about a 9 year old?
AnswerThe answer here is really all about what YOU think is appropriate for your daughter, and REALLY doing your homework to find a tech that will really take care of her nails, and the HEALTH of her nails.
Alot of techs have debated about this, and sometimes very hotly. Some won't do them at all, some won't do them until they can drive a car, some do and don't care at all.
I am of the opinion that, if they are not MY child, it really isn't my place to say what you should or should not do, my job is to do nails, and take care of your hands.
I put overlays on a couple of younger girls here and there, I usually talk them out of longer lengths, and really stress the importance of treating them like "jewels and not not tools." It can actually be very good to teach them proper grooming habits with their hands at this age.
But no, there is no age limit, and it's YOUR decision overall. But again, I STRONGLY suggest doing your homework on the tech, and finding one that is a MASTER, so that no damage can be done to those developing hands. If you need a referral, email me with your city and state, and any city close by that you would drive to.
