Recovering Natural Nails After Acrylic Removal: A Comprehensive Guide

Question
Hello Susan!
I have read some of your previous responses to this very popular question. My situation is that I removed my acrylic nails myself due to several of the nails lifting. I removed them with a file and a nail clipper. My natural nails are a mess now! They have lines and several of the layers are gone! What is the best care for them now? Should they "breathe" for a while before I go and get more acrylic on them? What types of products should I use to care for the natural nail? Should I let them "breathe" before I put ANYTHING on them? Also, they are real thin and rip very easily. The underlying problem is that I am a nail-biter and have been since I was a kid so it's a very long and nasty habit. I would love to quit but it seems like my only saving grace is to wear acrylics?!!? Sorry for all the questions and thanks for you time!

Answer
First of all nails do not "breathe", this is a common myth regarding nails. Nails are made of non-living tissue, so they don't repair themselfs either. The only thing you can do to improve your nails is to moiturize them and let themgrow out. Pehaps a parafin dip would be good.
Refarding wearing enhancements that is entirely your choice. Since nails do not breathe, wearing enhancements continously does not harm them. But, as i've said before, bad nail techs, and bad habits like picking on your nails CAN harm them. So if you go for enhancements choose a good, reputable nail tech and care for your nails just as you are told.
Hope i could help.
