QuestionQUESTION: I had acrylics put on about 2 years ago and they totally overfiled and trashed my nail bed. It took months and months to get my nails back in shape. they are quite strong now but i would like the look of artificiai nails. I am planning on getting bio sculpture gel nails from someone who i have reasherched in terms of cleanliness, proper care ect. but I am still nervous ( nervous and excited) I was wondering 1)what to expect, 2) is there anything i should do to prepare, 3) what the best way to care for my nails after i get them and I also have read lots of advertising wonderful things about bio sculpture and i was wondering abou tany negative things about it, warnings, things to beware of, interactions?. But mostly i just want to make sure i am doing everything i can to take care of them and make sure they last. Should i invest in the home care kit?
I also would like to paint over the clear overlays once and a while and was wondering if my revlon nail polish says it's acetone and toluene free so is it really and is it safe to use overtop without wrecking the gels?
ANSWER: Hello Michelle,
Gels are more or less the same as acrylics when it comes to at-home care. There's not much you need to do to prepare for them as well, just ask the nail technician to not drill too much off your natural nails before apply the gel. What is going to happen is that your tech is going to apply a gelly like substance on your nails and allow that to set for around 30 secs in a uv light, she is then going to repeat the steps for your other nails as well. after she is done with one hand she is going to set the nails for around 2 to 3 mins. the whole set of nails usually take twice the time of acrylics due to the amount steps.
Any nail polish is perfectly safe to use over the gel nails.
good luck

QUESTION: Thank you for your response. The technician is deffinately not going to drill she just uses a light buffer. I guess I wasn't clear - the acrylics I had only lased for a week or two tops. So I never really learned how to take care of them. Can you give me some detail as to what i should and shouldn't do and anything I can do to help them last longer between fills. Will the bath bombs, bubble bath ect that i put in my bath affect them? what about lotions and essesntial oils? will these make them lift. It's a big investment for me and I want to make sure I do whatever I can... Thanks in advance
AnswerHello again!
A well done set of nails shouldn't need any maintenance at all, just as long as you don't pick it or bite it. If you notice any major lifting don't peel or apply any glue to it, call your nail tech to schedule for a repair. Nothing you can put in a bath can really make them lift, although i would recommend to avoid products with zinc cause it will kill the shine on your nail.
=) best of luck
