QuestionHi Victoria!
I just got my nails done for the 3rd time today. Interestingly enough, the nail tech has used three different techniques on what he's calling "gel nails".
The first time (my starter set), he used white plastic tips, then put liquid and powder stuff over them, then put gel for a UV light. They looked great!
The second time (my first fill), he just used more liquid and powder, and the gel (no tips--there was still a strip left even after he filed them down). He said that the next time, tips would be added.
The third time, he only used liquid and powder, then painted on the white tips with nail polish, then put the gel.
I have a sneaky suspicion that something isn't right. Can you help?
Ashley
AnswerDear Ashley,
I see absolutely no reason for a qualified/certified technician to use so many different ways in such a short time. This sounds to me like a Non Standard Salon.
The "liquid & Powder" is acrylic and NOT to be confused with UV Gel. Uv Gel NEVER contains powder, in case that is what you thought you were getting.
There are many different ways to do a french manicure in acrylic.
- Apply white tips and clear acrylic over them
- Sculpt the acrylic using pink and white acrylic
- Apply clear acrylic and paint on a french afterwards.
He sounds LAZY. At your first refill, he should have corrected the french so that your natural nail wasn't showing through. Either by painting a french or backfiling your french with white acrylic, then infilling the regrowth area with clear. You paid for a service you didn't get.
I suggest that you see this page on my site, and learn to discern a good salon from a poor one.http://ongles-chez-victoria.tripod.com/victoriasnails/id18.html
