QuestionI had my nails done yesterday after not having gotten them done in about 3 years. I have no knowledge about Gel nails but that is what I asked and paid for since a friend had gel placed (at a different salon) and they look great. I am very upset because the tech did a very poor job on my nails. I have had acrylic nails in the past and I believe that's what she put on my nails and just added a "top coat" of gel. She filed my natural nails with the filer used for the acrylic and did not let me to wash my hands before painting them so I now have dust in the polish. She also placed the gel on top of the polish so I can't remove it. Is this a "different gel nail" as she told me there were two different methods, her method was one (with acrylic underneath the gel) and the other method is the clear gel directly on the fingernail (which is what I asked for). Can you tell me if this is correct? Are there two options in gel nails? And why wasn't I given an option on which style nails I wanted?
AnswerSounds like you went to a discount nail salon and had a pretty typical experience. :(
What you received was in fact a liquid and powder enhancement (AKA ACRYLIC), with a UV Gel finish gloss on the top of it. There isn't more than one "type" of gel, it's either UV Gel, with each layer cured under a UV Lamp, or it's not.
Whether or not you are given a choice entirely depends on you, and what salon you choose to frequent. If you asked for a full set of UV Gel enhancements, then that's what you should have received.
I think you may want to shop around for a new tech, and thoroughly research them before you try them out ;)
