Acrylic Nail Fills vs. Backfills: Understanding the Difference

Question
I have acrylic enhancements with white tips. I was told I ocassionally need backfills for the white tips. Can you tell me the difference between a regular 2 week fill and a backfill? Thanks!

Answer
Usually nail techs difrenciate the two procedures this way even thow opinions may vary. The diference is beteween an infill and a backfill (or rebalance) is that when doing an infill product is only applied to the regrowth area, leaving the nail a bit unbalanced but making the process a lot faster. When performing a backfill or rebalance the nail is shortened, thinned, in the case of a permanent french a new layer of white is applied to hide the natural smile line, and then product is applied to fill the regrowth area and a bit over the entire nail to create an apex (higher part of the nail) in the right position. This procedure leaves the nails just as they were after the 1st application.
