Military Marriage Annulment: Options for a Short-Term Marriage
QuestionHello Ma'am. I'm a 20 year old soldier. I got married about 2 years after meeting what i thought was the woman of my dreams. Well 9 months into my deployment in Iraq she says she doesn't want this anymore its to hard. We got married right before i deployed so she could have insurance and the other benefits of a military husband. So we have been married less than a year. I really do not wish to have a long drawn out process. If i am not what she wants is there anything i can do to end it fast and reduce the heartache. Thanks you for your time. Spc Michael
AnswerHi MIchael~
You can file for divorce one of two ways. You can file through the military and get a military divorce (use JAG, etc), it'd probably be cheaper for you. Or you can file for a regular divorce. As long as she doesn't contest the divorce, it can be over in a matter of a few months (from start to finish). However, if she contests it, then it's going to be drug out longer and cost more to divorce.
