Marriage & Name Changes: Legal Implications of Using a Different Name

My friend got marriage over a year ago and he has gone down hill since. but when she got marriage you used her "given name", because her parents divorce and she was given her mums new husbands surname. But not under a court order, just for common usage. Because she used her given name and not the name she was born with, does the marriage still stand, or are there not marrieage in the eyes of the law

I am not a lawyer so I cannot say for sure but it is my understanding that yes she is still legally married. They both signed the marriage license and it should still be upheld even though she used a non- court ordered name as her signature.
