Stepchildren After Remarriage: Legal Status and Considerations
Questionmy husband has been divorced from his previous wife for 27 years. We have been together for 23 years. His previous wife had been married with 3 children who were his stepchildren. The stepchildren are 40-45 years old. Now that we are married, are those children still considered his stepchildren?
AnswerI would say yes, whether he formally adopted them or not. If you are asking because of preparation of a will or trust, I would suggest getting it taken care of while your husband is still alive. Conceivably they could challenge anything that they have been left out of. Mentioning them even in a small fashion would alleviate future problems.
