QuestionQUESTION: Hi
so my husband and I has been casualy trying for our first child for a year. we took a month off and we're now starting to try again. So since its been over a year with no luck should i wait a few more months before seeing a doctor? I would see one but since we havnt been trying really hard i figure i should wait, but i dont want to wait to long if there was somthing i could have done. what should i do?
Thank you
ANSWER: Hello Stacy from Canada,
In general the recommendation is if the woman is under 35 years of age, then you should undergo infertility evaluation if unable to become pregnant after 12 months of trying. That assumes, however, that you have been trying earnestly, which means you are having intercourse at the approximate time of ovulation. If you have not been doing this by calendar method, BBT chart or ovulation kit, then you might want to consider using one of these methods. If you are 35 or older, then the time for trying is 6 months.

QUESTION: Hi again
so We havnt been really trying, so no ovulation test no calander,no nothing. So I really dont know when i ovulate, so we only had sex about 2-3x per week. I havnt been on birth control for 1.5 years and that was only for a few month while i was on accutain. sorry i'm also under 35.. So because it was very casual for a year i should still wait since i'm tracking everything now? If so how many month should i wait before seeking medical help? I'm also now taking fish oil supplement, folic acid (400mg) and a prenatal vitamin, could those help my chances?
Thank you so so much
AnswerHello Again,
None of the supplements you mention will help or hurt your chances of pregnancy. In terms of how long to wait, since you are less than 35 years old, you should give yourself 1 year of trying before seeking an infertility evaluation.
