QuestionI am allergic to adhesives and once when I used artificial nails my natural nails
dissolved underneath. Is there something I could use? What could I use to
strengthen my natural nails? They break easily and have spots on some nails
where they break off always. Thanks!
AnswerI hate to tell you this, but it's impossible for your natural nails to be dissolved unless you put them in some form of battery acid.
More likely, you had a tech aggressively file your natural nail, then the nails were pried off until there was not much left, and instead of letting you know that your nails were in this state because of this aggressive filing and removal, let you believe that it was the adhesive or other products used on your nails.
If you are unsure of this, take a clipping of your nail, slather it with adhesive, or any other nail enhancement product and then let it sit for a day, week, month, heck, even a year. I will bet money that the nail clipping will be unchanged no matter how long you leave it there.
It doesn't matter if it's clipped nail or on your nail bed. Keratin is keratin, and doesn't change form unless it's happening in the root, or matrix, of the nail.
So I would say you could have enhancements of any kind on, as long as you thoroughly research your tech, like you would a potential employee! If you need a referral, shoot me an e-mail: heatherdavisnails@hotmail.com
As for strengthening your natural nails, there is some research that has shown taking the vitamin supplement Biotin can help strengthen your nails from the inside out. Otherwise, using a nail enamel to build keratin crosslinks helps- I like CND Toughen Up, it works slower, but won't excessively crosslink your nails, which would make them brittle and yellow. It also does not contain formaldehyde, which is a known allergen.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
