QuestionI have had gel nail extensions since March this year and have just recently bought the kit and UV lamp to try them at home to avoid the expense every 2-3 weeks. Unfortunately during my first experience of replacing an extension after the original one had broke off, i seemed to buff the natural nail too much which left my nail very painful. Now my natural nail has is very thin and sticks outs like a sore thumb compared to the other nails which are long and perfect. Can another extension be put onto this nail again until the natural nail grows up again a little or what other solution am i left with, please help??
AnswerHi Kelly
Sorry to hear about your sore finger. I can sympathise as I have naturally thin nail plates, and if I do my own nails I can sometimes cause what is known as a "hot spot". This is what you have done to your nail, as you said, filed too much.
If this is something that can happen if I do my own nails, then it goes to show how easy it is to do if you do your own nails when not qualified :(
I know it can seem expensive to have your nails done professionally, but I can only recommend that is what is best.
Ask your nail tech to apply a thin layer of gel on your sore finger untill it grows out. Dont have it too long as this will put undue pressure on it.
You are likely too experience "spiking" when this finger goes under the lamp. Make sure you go slowly into the lamp and if you feel heat or pain, then slowly withdraw your finger, press it down on the table and after afew seconds, slowly go back in.
I hope you manage to get your nails done, and enjoy them.
