Solutions for Weak & Damaged Natural Nails | Custom Artificial Nails

Question
QUESTION: I have worn artificial nails for years.  My own nails do fine until they get about 2mm out and then they break or split.  I love polish too, but my nails, regardless of the polish brand would chip in a day or less!  So I started having acrylics put on by a nail tech, but since my nails are classified as "oily" lifting occured in less than a week, whether it was gels or powdered acrylic.  Eventually, I just started using the glue-on artificial nails, which lasted just as long and looked just as good.  The problem I have run into with the drugstore brands (Kiss, for example) is sizing.  I end up throwing away so many nails in the kits because they don't fit my nail size.  Sally Hansen use to sell individual sizes at their stores, but discontinued them a couple of years ago.  Can I get individually-sized nails anywhere?  Just buy 10 sizes that match my individual nails and be done with it?

Also I've found the new thermoplastic nails made by Custom Nail Solutions.  They looked to be a great thing - custom fit, individually sized, reusable artificial nails.  But I haven't bought them yet because #1) I can't find any reviews on whether or not they're worth the price (about $200 for one set!), and I'm sure not turning over that kind of dough on something I can't fine anything about other than what's on the manufacturer's website. Are they too good to be true? Do they last long enough to be worth the price?

Just looking for the perfect nail.

ANSWER: Sheila thank you for visiting AllExperts.  I'm going to make some suggestions for healthier nails, but I must be honest and tell you I have not heard about the thermoplastic nails by Custom Nail Solutions. I will try to research that for you and if I receive any additional information I will forward it to you.

I am not a Doctor so check with your Doctor before using my suggestion of Vitamin B-6 and Vitamin B-12.  I recommend my clients increase their Vitamin B-6 to 500mg, twice a day and Sublingual Vitamin B-12 to 1mg to 5mg once a day.  This has helped many of my clients to grow stronger healthier nails, but again check with your Doctor first.

I also use a product called Develop 10, for base and top coat and it has been very beneficial for my clients.  I use Develop 10 program for base and top coat, but they have products within the line that helps promote healthy nails.  I used and tried many, many other products and found the Develop 10 line to be the best and most economic.

Additionally, I use Essie polish.  I have found through the years, that Essie is stronger, doesn't chip or peel.  Make sure you clean the nail thoroughly with polish remover before application.  I have run across clients with oily nail beds so I understand what you are talking about, so make sure you clean, with soap and water and then go over them again with polish remover.  Make sure, as well, that you have removed any cuticle that has grown on the nail.

You may want to check your local directory to see if you can located a Salon that uses the "Adrian Jean" Paper Wrapping system or "Juliette" Paper Wraps.  These process are free from harsh chemicals and odorless.  I really think that this process would be optimum for you.

Good Luck, hope this has helped you.

QUESTION: Thank you.  Can you please answer my first question? Can I get individually-sized nails anywhere?  Not nail tips, but entire nails. Just buy the sizes that match my individual nails and be done with it?

Answer
Sheila, Sorry I missed your first question, my mistake.  Google -  Custom Artificial Nails, from there you will find what you are looking for, if I understand you correctly.  Look on website, Custom Nail Solutions.  These are somewhat pricey, but less expensive than what you indicated.  Overall the site feels you will save money over time regardless if you use this product.  Kindly, Pamela Golightly
