QuestionI have had gel nails for more than a year and the last two times they were filled (at two different salons) I had very
sensitive skin and puffiness around the nails. The areas are
sore to the touch but subside within a week. Could I be allergic to the gel and what would be an alternative (LCN?). I hate to give them up! Thank you so much for your reply.
AnswerDear Gerry,
There are people allergic to gel but very very few so far. Most of the time it is a problem which is related to the cleansing procedure.
During and after the nail application a good salon is supposed to use a cleanser to remove the sticky residue formed after the UV light treatment. First of all it needs to be a cleanser of a trustworthy brand such as IBD Cleanser Plus, ESN Nail Cleanser, or EzFlow Cleanse It. A lot of salons use an inferior products for this which can cause an allergic reaction. Second the nail tech should just cleanse the nail plate with the cleansing agent and NOT your skin.
Hope this will help you and in case the problem still occurs and you are allergic you can change to Acrylics which is a solution I doubt will have better results as there more people allergic to acrylics than to gel. Or you can change to fiber glass which is a different way of making artificial nail extensions.
Al the best and let me know if I can be of more assistance.
