Nail Regrowth & Strengthening: Addressing Thin & Weak Nails
QuestionHi Miko! When I was younger, my nails grew hard and long only when I took prenatal vitamins. At all other times my nails have been thin and peeled easily. So about 15 years ago I had acrylic nails put on (they have been on continuously during this 15 year period). Yesterday, I had the acrylics taken off and replaced with gel nails. My natural nails were very thin. I would like to do something between now and next April to encourage my natural nails to grow hard and healthy under the gel nails (I have heard that gel nails are easier on your natural nails than acrylics are). Is there product I can use over the gel or possibly at the cuticle where they are growing out to assist with this? I would like to get back to my own nails by next year (no enhancements). Do you think taking a multi vitamin and drinking several glasses of water every day will help? What products do you recommend (solar oil, nail proteins)? HELP
AnswerHello Debby,
Unfortunately, while there are nail enhancements on, there's not much you can put on top of them to encourage nail growth underneath. However, taking vitamin E will help nail growth. The best way to grow your nails out is to take off the enhancements completely, apply nail strengthener everyday, with the help of vitamin E, your nails should be nice and strong in a few months.
