QuestionI have always had good, healthy nails and any splits or breaks have repaired themselves quickly. However about three years ago I split the nail on my index finger and it just won't grow back. I have tried nail hardeners, had a nail wrap applied, rubbed in conditioner, applied anti-fungal treatment, used treatments for problem nails, taken vitamin supplements for hair and nail problems and nothing works. There is a tiny line from the split of the nail to the cuticle, barely visible. Help!
AnswerDonna,
You may have damaged the matrix. That is why you have the ridge/split.
The only thing you can do is keep a resin on it to help keep it from splitting more. Hydrate with a good cuticle oil to keep it from drying out. (Haken is available at Sally's) Use the oil on all the nails.
Hardeners will backfire as they eventually dry out the nails.
good luck,
