Questionhi, i'm a nail biter...it's a really bad habit and i've tried all kinds of nail treatments to stop (you know, all the nasty tasting ones). what normally happens is that i wear the bitter bite stuff religiously, my nails grow out, but they are so weak and fragile, even with strengthening polish that they start to bend, they crack/split, i file, but it drives me crazy that they break, so i start the cycle all over again..bite, bite, bite....i hate it...i'm out of patience with myself over this nasty habit. would an acrylic overlay help- any suggestions? thanks very much!
AnswerHello Jenn,
I'm proud of you for trying all these ways to stop this habit. However I want to be truthful to you, it sounds like your nails are naturally weak, which means that even if you are able to stop this habit completely, your nails still would crack and split. Acrylic overlay would help keep them from breaking and you from biting, but it's going to be something you are going to commit to, whenever you take them off, your nails are going to be back to square one. If you don't intend to keep acrylics forever (which may be the case) i would suggest to apply the bitter polish on your nails, when they grow pass your finger, apply nail strengthener everyday, take everything completely off in 7 days and start the treatment again. A lot of people don't realize that it takes a lot of work to maintain healthy strong nails. Keep at it
