Silk Nail Wraps & Fungus: A Potential Connection?

Question
I have recently changed to a new nail salon because I have just moved and they talked me into changing from Acrylics to Silk wraps.  I have had acrylics for years and never ever had fungus problems.  I changed to Silk and this new shop approx 3 months ago and when they went to do my nails this week we found 4 nails with brown fungus growing. they soaked them all off and when they went to put on the new I found that the combination of the glue and the powder they use made my nails literally burn like they were on fire..(on the undersides of my nails)  I had noticed something similar the first time they put them on but it was very minor compared to this time.. Should this happen?  is it the process they are using that causes this?  Why all of a sudden would I have fungus growing? Is it time to find another new salon?  Suggestions please. Thank you!

Answer
That burning feeling is common with wraps because the curing product produces heat, and if your nails are thin you'll feel it.

But it's not the product that caused the bacterial infection (fingernails don't usually get fungus), that would be because of either poor prep to begin with, or because of lifting and moisture/bacteria getting under the enhancement later.

It seems strange that your salon would switch you from acrylic (which you've done well with) to a wrap system (which is much less durable than acrylic.)  I'd ask them to use regular acrylic on you, and if they can't or won't do that service for you, or if the service breaks down like the wrap service did, I would look for another new salon.

I hope this helps!
