Engagement & Wedding Ring Resizing: Can They Be Adjusted?

Question
I recently bought a inexpensive engagement ring and wedding band for my girlfriend (inexpensive because we have a child on the way and decided that we should conserve our money) anyway, when we got the rings in they were to big, definitely my mistake.

that is the link for her ring. Do you think it can be resized?

I also bought a wedding band for myself

and guess what? it is too big as well. Could mine be resized?
Thank you for your time,

Answer
Joe, this answer is mostly lacking in good news but there is a slight possibility of one good response.

The titanium band was a true bargain but if it does not fit? This metal cannot be sized in any conventional way to make it larger. It cannot be cut and welded to make it smaller unless you know someone with the proper mig welder with cover gas and then someone to refinish the ring.  With all of that, you are better off getting another one.  The one possibility is to have the ring compressed perhaps 1 size smaller, if that will do it.  We have used a ring "shrinker" to make a titanium band smaller by 1 size. Go more and it is a true problem and refinishing time eats up any savings of using a ring too large to begin with.  The shrinker is essentially a die plate of tapered holes and a metal foot above which pushes the ring into the die, first one side then the other to make it even.  Some jeweler may be willing to try this. Most will likely not accept any responsibly for doing it.

Unfortunately, the ladies rings cannot be sized without causing a real mess of all of it. Since the website said the stones would take high heat but that doesn't help if the ring becomes discolored. The problem is the plated surface.  Unplated silver will tarnish but can also be sized quite cleanly. Some people can wear raw sterling just fine (I can wear it with no tarnish problems at all) while other people have a body chemistry which leads to almost immediate tarnish and smudging.  There is not a satisfactory method to remove the plated surfaces  or to replace it on silver in a normal jeweler's shop. Plating silver is a different task by a few giant steps than plating gold with rhodium, for instance.

Joe, I wish I had better news. Sorry, I have to tell it up straight and honest. Best wishes on what you find next. Truly!

God Bless and Peace. A special blessing wished for the new child.
