Engagement Ring Band Snapped: Is This a Common Issue?

Question
Hi,
I recently had my engagement ring sized from a 9 to a 9.75.  It has already been sized from the standard 6 or 6.5.  Today the band got caught on a door as it was closing and it snapped completely in half.
I'm wondering if this is something that regularly happens or if there is some other problem with the manufacturing.  I know that the band size is quite large, so I do understand that it would not be as strong after re-sizing. However, I also know that the price of gold is very high right now.  It is possible the jeweler has cut his costs by using less gold than necessary?
Thanks so much for your help!  I'm getting married very soon and need my ring to be fixed ASAP!

Answer
Hi Allison,
I would save the two pieces and have the jeweler re solder them.
It would be a good question to ask if he is using cadmianum free solder.  That can make the solder joints more brittle.  Dont worry I am sure it can be put back together by a goldsmith the charge should be under $50.00.  The impact of slaming it in the door is too much for a  gold ring, good thing it probably saved your finger from breaking.  That would not have been be a good look going down the isle.
I hope that helped
Thanks Jeanette
