Identifying Gold Ring Markings: Understanding JP, Crown, and More

Question
please could you shed any light on the markings on a ring my sister had handed down to her. there are 5 markings..JP/crown/22/a sort of backward arrow/111.its a wedding band that was left to her friend of 75yrs old and was possibly passed from her mother too.thankyou very much

Answer
Hello Steve and thank you for your inquiry. It is difficult to tell much about your ring without a hands-on inspection. The crown would indicate that it may be European possibly British. Since it may be precious metal - karat gold, I would recommend that you have it professionally tested and if you use an estate jewelry appraiser  they may be able to tell you more about the marks. Your local museum or antique shop may be able to refer you to a good appraiser and I think it would be worth the effort.  Hope this helps !
