Questionmy husband purchased a diamond eternity band online for me, but he got the wrong size. i need to size up at least to an 8.5, a 9 wuld be even better. is this possible?
AnswerGeorgette, thanks for this question.
Before even considering having the ring sized, if possible please contact the seller and explain the situation. If this is a single item such as from an online auction, the seller may not honor returns. If the item is from a seller whose business is jewelry, a return may be honored and they may be willing to provide a similar ring of the correct size. If you have any work done locally prior to contacting the seller, you will void any warranty if there is one.
Can it be sized up? That depends. If diamonds go all around the band, sizing means cutting between two diamonds and adding a piece of metal there. Considering the construction, current size and closeness of the diamonds to each other, sizing may or may not be practical. Diamonds close together in a ring going up perhaps 3 sizes may be put into danger by being forced together at the edges when the ring is rounded out to the larger size.
If the diamonds are only part way around, sizing is much more likely and there is less danger to the stones.
A good bench jeweler will need to see the ring to know exactly what work will be required and determine any risks. They may also accurately measure your finger size.
Best wishes with the ring. God Bless. Thomas.
