Engagement Ring Band Split: Is It a Manufacturing Defect?

Hi,
We bought an expensive engagement ring for about 20K. The band split at the sizing seam 1 1/2 years later although my wife is extremely gentle and never bangs her ring on anything. Is this normal? Should we have to pay for damage - I assume not. I am just trying to get an opinion. The jeweler is inspecting the ring now.

IF THE JEWELER IS THE ONE WHO ORIGINALLY SIZED THE RING THEN HE SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEFECT. IS THERE A GAURANTEE WITH THE RING? DID HE PROMISE YOU ANYTHING? AND IF HE IS NOT SMART ENOUGH TO REALIZE HOW MUCH MONEY YOU SPENT AND HOW MUCH HE MADE THEN HE WOULD REPAIR IT WITH NO QUESTION. IF THERE IS DAMAGE THEN IT WOULD BE SHARED WITH YOU. IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE IT THOUGH. GOOD LUCK.
