My engagement ring was purchased from a pawn shop and there are numbers inscribed inside and i was wondering what they meant. . . It says 14K969FJG. . . I assume the 14k stands for the 14 karat white gold that the ring is made from

I think you are correct on 14k..it can easily be tested by a jeweler (free hopefully..ask first)
i would say 969 may be date...and FJG would be designer or goldsmith who made the ring..
does it have a valuable diamond..? if so keep it in your sight slways even with a jeweler..unless you have a laser ID number burned in
