Diamond Ring Identification: Understanding 14K Stamps, Numbers & Markings

Question
I inherited a solitare ring I think is a diamond, It is stamped inside with 14K  - the number 47 - a letter P inside a stamped circle - and a word that I can't really read, but may be Eaglecut or Exquicite - ??

Answer
Hi Lois, It sounds to me like you have a diamond about slightly less than a half carat in weight, which is 14 karat gold. The P means Plumb which means crtified pure 14 karat or .5825% gold. The other word most probably meand the manufacturer. The best bet is to take the ring to a jeweler/appraiser and obtain an appraisal for approximate retail replacement value for insurance purposes should you choose to insure it. also they can check to see if the diamond is genuine. Good luck.
