Understanding Ring Markings: 18K HGE & Diamond Symbol

Question
Hi Bill and Sally,
About a year ago a bought a ring at a thrift store because it was very beautiful, and it didn't really occur to me that it could be of some value.  Well in the inside of the band it is inscribed with the following: 18K HGE ( and following the is a diamond symbol with the letter V inside of it.) I am not sure what those markings mean exactly.

Thank you,
Adriana G.

Answer
Hello Adriana and thank you for your inquiry. The HGE inside your ring means the that metal is Hard Gold Electroplate which was popularly used in the production of costume jewelry rings. The other symbol is probably the manufacturer of your ring. I found a V within a diamond shape for Morris Vogel & Bro of New York c. 1902 - 1950's but the diamond had Fifth Avenue New York written around the edge of the diamond. Hope this helps and enjoy your ring !
