Identifying Antique Rings: Is Your Ring Old & Valuable?
Question
pic1
Hi guys,
I have a ring that was given to my dad as a teenager by possibly an indian or egyptian man early 1960's, he wore it for a while but out grew it so put it away.several years later he met my mother who then wore it for many years, I was always facinated by this ring she wore silver high domed with a perhaps worn star ruby,it always looked worn out and was that way when my father first recieved it, i now have that ring some 40 plus years later and cannot find a hallmark any where to identify it. It is quite weighty at 6.34grams, i will supply a picture for youto look at, perhaps you can answer my question
AnswerHello Darren and thank you for your inquiry. Your ring does look very old and could be sterling silver. A lot of foreign jewelry especially silver was not marked and is difficult to trace. The stone could be a star ruby that has seen better days...and the setting looks like it may be cracked. Unless you can find a mark on the inside, there would be no way to get much more information other than possibly from a gemologist who might be able to tell you something about the stone and if the ring is, indeed, sterling. Hope this helps and sorry I couldn't tell you more.
