Antique Ruby Ring Appraisal: Value & Details
QuestionCould you give an approximate value of an antique Ruby ring set in a beautiful 14K gold finely etched basket settings with 6 prongs. The stone is a 2 carat and the most beautiful clear red with a hint of fuschia underlying. The band is thin and etched along the shank on either side of the solitaire stone. It at least 50 years old.
AnswerHi,
I would need a approx weight on the gold but I could guess and give you an idea on that.
The ruby if natural and clean with good color would be the most value. It would have to be checked to make sure it is ruby and not spinel for example although a nice spinel would have good value as well but not as high as ruby. Have you looked at it with a 10x power loupe (magnifing glass)? To see if it has natural inclusions (flaws)? Or has a gemologist confirmed it is a natural ruby? In order to give you a ballpark price a good close up picture with a good digital camera would help alot.
I will wait for your reply to answer your question.
