Identifying Gold Markings on Antique Rings: A Comprehensive Guide
Questioni have acquired a ring that is rose gold on the ring part and some other white metal on the platform on top which is carved and contains full cut diamonds and a small ruby in the center. The top platform is beautifully carved and is a long navette shape. the white carved and be-diamoned quite long platform is clasped by prongs from the rose gold ring. the marks are on the outside of the bottom of the ring shaft. they are 585 (which i know means 14K) and then right next to that mark is another stamp that says .9E. Can you tell me what the .9e refers to and if the ring is art deco or victorian based on the design. The top platform is very beautiful & long.
AnswerGood morning Marilyn,
This is a tough one without seeing the item. You are correct obviously on the .585 being 14k gold. The .9E I have never seen. Could it be a designate for the carat weight of the item? How many stones and what are the millimeter sizes of them that may equal this mark? If the focal point of the item is of a Navette, then the design would be Victorian based. Is the platform as you describe filigree? Please respond back if you wish.
