Antique Ruby & White Gold Ring Appraisal | Value & History

Question

ruby/white gold ring
Hi, my stepfather gave me a huge antique 18ct white gold ring with 20 rubies as a wedding gift, in the 1980s.It has one ruby in the centre, six around that, then 13 around those. It then has a wavy white gold frill around the whole thing. It is the ugliest ring I ever saw! I have no idea if it's 1920s or older even? I want to sell it but need to know its date and how much it's worth. I am British, so I assume the ring is too.The rubies actually are more purplish in colour. I had it valued 25 years ago and was told then it was worth about 250 pounds($450 ish).
Thanks

Answer
Hello Clare and thank you for your inquiry. The only way to value your ring is to have it appraised by a professional jeweler, estate appraiser or gemologist. Valuation is done by examining the stones for quality, clarity, size and color as well as the weight of the gold. Your local antique shop or museum should be able to refer you to someone who can appraise it for you. Below is a site that can give you the name of appraisers in your area.  Just copy and paste it into your browser address field and hit enter:
