Understanding Gold Ring Hallmarks: Identifying the 'SME' Mark

I have a babyring  10 k with a mark SME.   Could you give me some inforration on the mark.  The ring was purchased about 1940 in the midwest.

Hello Mary and thank you for your inquiry. I have not been able to locate a company SME mark. Unfortunately not all companies registered their marks and without further documentation, they are difficult to resource. The only SME in my records is a more recent company dealing in gemstones. Sorry I couldn't be of any help on this one, but don't give up. Check your library for some business registrations in the midwest and it would be helpful if you could narrow it down to the state.  Good luck !
