Decoding Gold Ring Markings: What Does a Single 'K' Mean?
QuestionSir,recently I purchased a claddagh ring that I thought was a 10k gold
ring. There are two marks inside the ring band. One appears to be the maker's mark' the other is a K that stands alone. What does the K stand for. It is by itself with no accompanying number. Thanks for your help.
AnswerHi Patrick,
The single K has no meaning without a number next to it. If it is 10K it would have the "10" next to the K or 415 next to the k. Both are the mark for 10 Karat gold. So I would look at the ring closer since sometimes the markings get destroyed when the rings are sized. Good Luck,
Peter
