Authentic Ivory Pendant Necklace with Signature – Elegant & Timeless

Question

brigi1
I have been trying to identify this necklace for over 5 years. It is signed on the back of the pendant and on a small ring next to the clasp (signed either BRIGI or BRIGL or ???). Marked 800 but it is gold in color with no signs anywhere of any surface plating wearing thru to a different color underneath, even on corners where you might expect wear (so is it French gold or gold plated silver or what?). The pendant appears to be an ivory cabochon (about 1" x 1/2") with the overall pendant size at 1-3/4" x 1". It has a 23" Box chain with a spring ring clasp (so made sometime in the 1900s I think).

I've attached one image that is a collage of pictures. An online link to the image is:

I've posted questions in forums and no-one has been able to offer any positive identification of the maker as yet. This is one mystery that I would dearly love to solve!!!

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Answer
Hello Shirley and thank you for your inquiry. This first thing I would suggest is to have the item professional tested for metal content. I would appear from the marking that it is 800 silver and it could be tested for that as well as any gold content. 800 has been used by several countries to indicate silver content including Mexico, Germany and US. I haven't been able to find the other markings in my resources. There are several American manufacturers with Briggs in the name but not Brigi or l. There is a Mexican silversmith "Sigi" (Sigfrido Pineda). You might want to check more Mexican pieces for something similar. You might want to check the below site for your hallmark. It has American as well as other countries with plenty of pictures and listings. Just copy and paste it into your browser address field and hit enter:

If I find anything, I will let you know and good luck !
