What Does the 'R 925' Hallmark Mean on a Gold Ring?

QUESTION: I purchased a ring that was sold as Sterling silver and 18k gold, when I received the ring it has the stamp, R 925, does that mean that the ring is gold plated or does the R stand for something else?

ANSWER: I dont know what the R means . It may be the Manufacture. The 925 is Sterling Silver.

QUESTION: Thank you. Does that mean that it does not have 18k gold in it as it said, because it's not stamped 18k, only 925 and the initial "R"

If you see any yellow in the ring it may be 18K yellow gold although I would get it tested.
