Question
ring
Hello, I have a very unique custom made white gold, diamond ring, which i believe was made between 1960 and 1970. I have been trying to sell it but no one is interested because the ring only has a marking of (18k) stamped on the inner part of the ring. Does this marking not prove that the ring is 18 karat, white gold. Thank you
AnswerHello andrea,
I thought I answered this already. It does in fact indicate 18 karat gold. You may want to remove the diamond and sell it seperately from the gold. You may get more for it that way. Before going into a metals dealer check kitco.com for the daily spot quote on gold, so you'll have some ammo when they offer a ridiculously low sum for the weight of the gold, but keep in mind 18 karat gold is 75% gold so deduct that from the daily market when you are negotiating the settlement. And depending on the diamond's size, clarity, colour, and cut ( which I can't make out from the photo- but does not look like a round cut entirely) Know the approx. value by calling Rio Grande jewelry supply in NM and ask them the cost for a single stone of your exact gem with the same size, cut, colour and clarity- tell them you are a hobbyist jeweler only if they ask,and tell them you are trying to put together an order so you'll call back later if they press you for information !
Hope this helps, best regards,Ari
