Identifying 18kt Gold Jewelry: Understanding Hallmarks & Maker Marks
QuestionHI,
I have an 18kt yellow gold Tiger head pendant/ring conversion piece w/ Enamel and Diamonds. The Tiger head is cast but the chain/ hinged (hidden) shank of the ring is custom, hand manufactured. There is a hallmark stamp inside the shank in a diamond/kite shape with AL419 raised. Can you give me any direction on provinance? etc. It is also stamped 750 which I know is 18kt. Been researching on line for over an hour and found you fabulous site.
Can you help?
Thanks,
Gina
AnswerHello Gina and thank you for your inquiry. You are right that the 750 does indicate 18K gold. The stamp inside the ring AL419 could be the manufacture, but I have not been able to locate the mark. It could also be the design number. You might have better luck having it appraised by an estate jewelry appraiser since it is karat gold with gemstones. They may also be able to shed some light on the mark since they deal more with fine jewelry. If I locate anything similar to the mark, I will let you know and enjoy your ring !
