Understanding Period-Related Symptoms: Fever, Spotting & Abdominal Pain

Question
Hello, im 20 yrs old have no childred and the first day of my last period was April 19,2005.  For the last three months, Ive been running fever while on my period from one to two days.  Right after my last period about a week later I was spotting, which for me has never happened before.  And here recently I have been having lower abdominal pains on my right side and in the middle.  What could this mean?
Thank You
Heather

Answer
If you have a temperature of greater than 101 degrees every time you get your period, that is abnormal and you shoulc check it out with your gynecologist to make sure that you do not have an infection somewhere. If this is also accompanied with abdomiinal cramps, somoething may be going on in your abdomen and a sonogram may be useful in the diagnosis. However, all these symptoms may, indeed, be just due to your menstrual period. There is no way for me to assess your situation without examining you and taking a detailed history. I suggest that you consult with your gynecologist to find out what is going on.
