Irregular Periods After Miscarriage: Causes & What to Expect

Question
I am 36 and have 1 child.  First day of period was 15/10/05.

5 months ago I miscarried at 19 weeks.  I had a D & C straight away as the placenta would not come away.  I bled for 10 weeks prior to the m/c and another 14 days after.  I then stopped for about 2 days and started bleeding again for another 14 days.  I am assuming that was my first period.  I have not been on any contraceptive and have had unusual periods.
It was another 6 weeks before I had another period then 30 days, 22 days and 32 days.  The 30 and 22 days were normal (4-6 days) but the last one on the 15th lasted only a day and a half and was hardly worth calling a period.

Is it possible that I could be pregnant?

Or could it be that my body is still getting over the trauma of my last pregnancy?

Or maybe because of my age my reproductive system is slowing down?

Answer
If your last period appear to you to be very short, it may not have been a normal period and you may have conceived two weeks prior to the start of that period. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing yuor period. If you think that the bleeding you had on October 15 was short, take a pregnancy test on October 21. If it is negative, you are definitely not pregnant. The length of the period is normal. We consider a period normal if you bleed less than 14 days at a time. Your age would not "slow down": your reproductive system. You are stil considered quite young. Just keep a careful record of your bleeding. A cycle is considered normal if it is 21-35 days from the start of one period until the start of the next period. If you continue to have periods that last 14 days at a stretch, contact your gynecologist and possibly strt birth control pills to regulate your cycle.
