Understanding Your Cycle: Long Periods & Ovulation After Birth Control

Question
21 0 kids LMP 11-17-2005 and started today 1-3-06

Since I have went off the birthcontroll that I was been on for 6 years. I have had  very long cycles. I have a period every 48 days to be exact. I just started checking cervical mucus, and on Dec 19 I had egg white consistency. Could I have ovulated on the 19th? and since my cycle is regular but LONG is that ok?

Thanks, Karen

Answer
In order to calculate when you ovulate, you must keep a careful record of your periods. See how many days there are from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period. Ovulation occurs fourteen days PRIOR TO the first day of your period. If you have a 28 day cycle, ovualtion occurs on cycle day #14. If you have a 30 day cycle, ovulation occurs on cycle day #16  (fourteen days before the start of your period). Once you know when you ovulate, concentrate on having sex around the time of ovulation.
