Irregular Periods: Causes, Concerns & When to See a Doctor

Question
In Oct on the 12th I had a normal period it last 5 days. In Nov I got what I thought was a period on the 9th it only lasted 2-3 days. On the 20th of Nov I began to to bleed again. I have been cramping. I have had unprotected sex. I would like to know if I have a Major problem, this has never happen before to me.

Answer
I need some more information:
How old are you?
What is your normal periods like and how many days do you bleed every month?
Are on on any contraceptive?(especially emergency pill)

The causes of polymenorrhagia(the name give to too many frequent periods) is huge and a complete discussion of the causes is beyond the scope of this answer, but there are two major causes of frequent periods. One is hormonal imbalance (also called DUB) and the other common cause is fibroid.

But since this is the first time you are having this problem, you may not be having any of these. Another common cause of frequent periods is the use of the emergency contraceptive pill. In my experience use of the emergency contraceptive pill is almost always associated with a abnormal period in the next cycle(That's why I asked you about contraception).

So looking at your case holistically, I am of the opinion that you may not be having any serious problem, and your cycles should regularize by the next period.

There are two good articles, which you can read for your knowledge.
