There are many causes for abnormal or irregular cycles. Most commonly are pregnancy or hormonal imbalance. A cycle is considered normal if it is 21-35 days in length (from the first day of the period until the first day of the next period). I period is normal as long as it does not last longer than 14 days at a time. (Even only one hour of bleeding is considered a normal period). However, if you normally had a 29 day cycle, and now are starting to have a 38 day cycle, it sounds like you have some hormonal imbalance. This is the balance between the estrogen and progesterone that your body produces. Usually, we treat this with Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days, and you should start bleeding. If you do start bleeding, it means that everything is working correctly. Then you may have to be regulated with birth control pills for awhile. In any event, your situation should be evaluated by a gynecologist and you should discuss it with the doctor. I can't tell why you have blue veins emerging on your hands and arms. That is usually due to varicose veins and your internist should check your blood pressure and cardiac status. I does not usually indicate a problem.

Answer
If you did get your period, you do not need to take Provera. However, you may need to start birth control pills in order to regulate your cycle (to one of 28 days). If you did get your period, you are not pregnant. HOwever, Provera will not cause any problems even if you were pregnant. It just would not cause bleeding if you are pregnant. I would discuss all your problems with a gynecologist and, perhaps, start birth control pills so that your cycle will be regular.
