QuestionHi Doc-
I have used AllExperts before on different topics and have been very happy, so I find myself asking away again. My husband and I have started to actively to try and get pregnant. We currently have no children. I am 28 and he is 29. I have been off the Pill since February after about 10 years of being on it religiously, and my last period was April 21. My cycle is pretty normal (29 days), and when I was ovulating last week, we had sex quite a few times--I did the pillow under the back thing, everything I have read to help concieve. Well, it is now a week after ovulation, and I have these really wierd, gassy pains around the same times every day (10am, 3pm, and 6pm). I have never felt these types of pains before. Almost feels like gas or hunger pains-- could these be early signs of pregnancy? Or I am just hyping myself up too much? I don't have swollen or tender breasts yet, no nausea or morning sickness... Not sure what to make of it! Any advice? I would love to take a preg test, but I know that it is still too early... Thanks so much!
Monica
AnswerIf you normally have a 29 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #15 and you can become pregnant if you have unprotected sex on cycle day #14, 15, 16, and 16. If your last period started on April 21, then you ovulated around May 4 and could have conceived on May 3,4,5, or 6. If you did become pregnant, a pregnancy test will not show a positive result until 14-21 days after conception or between May 18-25. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after you miss your next period. The earliest symptoms of pregnancy are nausea, fatigue, and breast tenderness, as you know. Sequestration of gas in your intestines (gurgling, tingling, etc) can occur during pregnancy but can also occur when you are not pregnant (gastroenteritis, intestinal virus, etc). I'm afraid that you will have to wait until you see if you miss your period and then take a pregnancy test. Good Luck.
