Delayed Period: Understanding Late Periods & Pregnancy Possibilities

Question
Hi, here is my queston my lmp was 6/8/06. I had a 31 day cycle until I got married this past Oct. It then changed to a 35 day cycle.  My cycle is like clock work. I know to the day when it's coming.  I took a hpt on 7/20 and it was negative.  It is now August and still no period.  Do you think I should try another hpt or should I just schedule a blood test with my Dr.  I do have PCOS, but have had a regular cycle for the last 12 years.  My DH and I are ttc.  We have been trying for the last 9mos.

Answer
Hi Terri,

congratulations on your marriage!

I would schedule a blood test with your doctor, it is more accurate than a home pregnancy test.

If you are not pregnant, have you tried a home ovulation detector? The doctor can also give blood tests/ultrasounds  to check for progesterone/ estradiol/estrogen levels and to see if and when you are ovulating. (on the ultrasound they can see your follicle on your ovary)

It certainly does sound like you could be pregnant, with the late period... I sure hope you are!

good luck... keeping fingers crossed for you and DH.
