Hypothyroidism & Early Pregnancy: Understanding Positive Test Results

     Hello, I have a question about hypothyroidism and pregnancy. I have a friend who had a positive pregnancy test 7 DPO. I did not know this was possible. She does have thid condition, and I was wondering if it could have caused a false positive so early. Thank You

No. Hypothyroidism is not 1 of the causes for false positive pregnancy test. Actually this can happen in a minority of cases. This is when a patient gets pregnant in twins and around the time of her period, she aborts 1 of them and bleeding of abortion around the time of the period is misinterpreted as a period. The amount of bleeding in this case is less in amount and duraion compared to the normal period.
