QuestionHello,Im 18 years old. Back in April I had sex with a condom and the guy did not ejaculate. Four days later I got my period (it was on April 29th and lasted 4-5 days)and it was normal flow and duration. On the 2nd day of this period I had very short anal sex (like 3 minutes) in which the guy did not ejaculate.I did not have any other sexual encounters since then. My next period was 5 days late (it started on June 6th and lasted 4 days), and started off light, but got a little heavier. The first and 2nd day was light bleeding, but the night of the 2nd day the flow increased. The blood was also red, and when Id wake up in the morning to urinate there was alot of blood. I did bleed to fill a pad or two, and some liners on the last day. However it was still lighter than my usual periods (no clots). I've take 4 pregnancy test, all negative. The 4th one was taken a week after I got my light period,6 weeks after any sexual encounter. Is there any chance of pregnancy after all this? My period being lighter is stressing me out. Also, Im at 11 days after the start of the lighter period, and Im experiencing a large amount of clear vaginal discharge with some cramping. The dishcarge is abun dant and clear, watery. Is this early ovulation? (my cycles are irregular, 32-38 days and i would probably ovulate between 14-18 days after the start of my period)"Also, Im not having any pregnancy sypmtoms(like sore breasts or nausea)and it has been 8 weeks since any sexual encounter.
Thanks for your help and opinion on this
AnswerDear Joann,
From what you have shared, I would not suspect pregnancy. The clear, abundant vaginal secretions with some abdominal discomfort likely does indicate an early ovulation time for you this cycle. It sounds like maybe your cycles are just a little "off" for whatever reason here lately.
I would suspect that your unusually light period was likely due to a bit of a hormonal imbalance - as most cycle irregularities are. There are many various potential causes for irregularities in our cycles. They are:
-Significant weight gain or loss
-Excessive or strenuous exercise
-Poor nutrition (or a diet too high in carbohydrates)
-Smoking
-Drug use
-Excessive caffeine intake
-Excessive alcohol use (interfering with how the liver metabolizes estrogen and progesterone)
-Eating disorders
-Increased stress
-Polycystic ovarian syndrome/estrogen dominance
-Uterine abnormalities (fibroids/cysts/polyps/endometriosis)
-Hormonal imbalance related to perimenopause
-Medications
-Chemotherapy
-Thyroid dysfunction
-Recent childbirth, miscarriage, or D&C
-Breastfeeding
More than likely your cycles will return to a fairly normal pattern when the trigger for the irregularity lessens or goes away. We really don't get concerned until a woman misses three consecutive periods and pregnancy is not the reason OR if periods become very heavy with or without clotting on a rather continual basis. At that point, you should see your doctor so that a cause can be determined.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
