Understanding Post-Miscarriage Ovulation & Fertility

Question
QUESTION: Can you please review my chart and tell me if I indeed did ovulate and also does it look good for pregnancy?  Thank you for your help.  Also does the dip at 5 dpo mean anything?

ANSWER: What it looks like to me is that you have a short Post Leutal Phase.  That means there isn't enough progesterone being produced to sustain a pregnancy.  Generally, there are at least 10-14 days after ovulation for the progesterone to build up.  If your period starts tomorrow, then that would be a clear indication.  The fall in your basal temperature is also an indication that you are about to have your period.

this could be the reason you had your miscarriage (miscarriages can result from low progesterone) or this pattern could just be your body healing and getting back to normal after the miscarriage.  If this is your very first period after the miscarriage, I don't think I have enough information.  If you have other charts that you can compare this one with, that would be helpful.

Are all your post leutal phases short?  Are all your cycles shorter than 28 days?  How long was your pregnancy before the miscarriage?  Have you had any other miscarriages?  I know some doctors will give progesterone for women who have miscarriages.  You might want to show your chart to your doctor and discuss it with him/her.  Let me know if you need any further assistance.

QUESTION: Thank you so much for your response.  I miscarried almost 5 months ago (10/31/08) at 12 weeks.  The baby had mosaic turner syndrome.  I do have T677C which is a blood clotting disorder.  After the miscarriage I had a 29 day period then 31 then I didn't have one so I started provera and had one and yes today I did start (27th day).  Before the miscarraige I had a period every 31-34 days ovulating being 14 days before it.  Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hopefully, you'll get back to your normal 31-34 day cycles with the longer Post Leutal phases.  It sounds like your miscarriage didn't really have anything to do with progesterone.  I'm sorry for your loss!  That must have been very hard for you.  I wish you well and I wish you pregnant before too long, with a nice healthy baby!
