Post-Miscarriage Complications: Addressing Bleeding and Infection Concerns

Question
I am 30 years old, no kids, and LMP was 7/13. I had a miscarriage (natural - no D&C) on 10/2. Bleeding stopped around 10/14 and had discharge w/odor after that. On 10/20 I began a 7 day course of 200 mg minocycline for possible infection. My doctor did weekly HcG tests and my levels were down to 8 on 10/19. However, on 10/27 I began spotting again and have had significant bleeding (similar to period) for the past 5 days. My doctor does not seem overly concerned but I am worried. Do you know what the bleeding could be attributed to and should I be concerned? Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer
The bleeding sounds like your first normal period since the miscarriage of October 2. It is the correct time for your next period to start. Another possibility is that you have some retained products of conception in the uterus that are starting to come out. A sonogram would confirm if your uterus is,indeed, empty, or not.
